On CNN today, Mitt Romney stated that he would veto the DREAM act if congress were to pass it. In so doing, he completely lied about what the act does (emphasis mine):
“You know, the Hispanic-American voters I speak with are overwhelmingly concerned with opportunity,” Romney said on CNN’s “Starting Point with Soledad O’Brien.”
“They want good jobs in America and rising incomes. If they want a president who is going to talk to them about a handout or more benefits for free, they got that guy. If they, instead, want a president who understands the economy who has lived in the economy and understands what it takes to help people get jobs, again, then I’m that person,” Romney continued.
A handout? Benefits for free? That is precisely what the DREAM act does not do. You want citizenship? Its not free, you have to work for it. By getting a college education or serving in the military. A college education, by the way, typically helps people get jobs, which come with incomes.
And I’m not certain what “living in the economy” means, but I think I’m doing it right now?
