Ron Paul briefly “suspended his campaign” so he could go back to DC yesterday to make a purely symbolic vote against the increase in the debt ceiling. Keep in mind that this vote was 100% purely symbolic. It was on a resolution to disapprove of the President raising the ceiling. It does not prevent him from doing so.
I’m glad Paul did that. While I disagree with Paul, I’m glad he made the vote, symbolic or no, because this is something he rails against constantly, so he should vote accordingly.
So here’s why I’m pissed about it. Ron Paul didn’t vote against the NDAA’s final passage. Sure he voted against it back when it first passed the house in May 2011, but he had a final chance to vote no on the bill before it went to the President in December. He did not do so.
I know he is against this bill. He says so repeatedly, and for good reason. And I know his vote would have been purely symbolic, as passage was assured. And I know he was busy campaigning.
But if he can take a break from the campaign to vote against the debt ceiling, he can do so to vote against NDAA. But he didn’t. I understand that, in the scheme of things, this is not a huge deal. But it annoys me.
