NJ is next, unless Christie vetoes. He probably will.
New Jersey lawmakers gave their blessing to legalizing gay marriage for the first time Monday as the state Senate passed a bill that would allow nuptials for same-sex couples, despite Gov. Chris Christie’s insistence that he will veto such legislation.
The Senate’s 24-16 vote sends the bill to the Assembly, which is expected to pass it on Thursday.
…
“It means the world isn’t changing, it means the world has already changed,” said Steven Goldstein, chariman of Garden State Equality, the state’s largest gay rights organization. “So wake up and smell the equality.”
I still believe that Maryland might be next to have gay marriage legalized and signed into law. The Senate is in favor of the new gay marriage bill. The House appears poised to pass it. The bill last year fell 1 vote short in the House. The 2012 version was introduced by the governor, who stated he would sign it. It’s just a matter of when the votes will be taking place. The House is believed to be voting on the bill tomorrow, with the Senate voting in the next few days.
I hope you are right. Christie is sure to veto. Sigh. But the momentum really is astounding, isnt it?
