Remember, corporations are people too! Mitt Romney continues to say that the auto companies should have been allowed to enter bankruptcy, becuase that’s capitalism, that’s the free market, and its good. But what is bankruptcy? It happens when a corporation takes on more debt than it can handle, and then a court comes in and works out a deal that involves much of that debt being dissolved. But that’s capitalism, the free market, Hooray!
When homeowners do this (strategic foreclosures) we say its unethical. When homeowners take out stupidly high mortgages they can’t afford, its immoral. When the president proposes refinancing mortgages, there is outrage. They got into debt, they should pay it. Student loan debt can’t even be eliminated in bankruptcy.
But corporate bankruptcy is good!
So remember, then, that corporations are people. People, on the other hand, are apparently not.
