The Culture Wars Infect Everything

I was reading an article about the low sales figures for the Chevy Volt this morning, and this line jumped out at me:

Conservatives started denouncing the company (Rush Limbaugh called GM “a corporation that’s trying to kill its customers”).

Seriously? This is a thing now? It’s a damn car. Why is it political? Is this a “the Volt is a hippy tree hugger car and as a conservative I hate the environment and you should buy a Hummer” thing?

Is that what’s going on here? Or is it a “GM is a proxy for Obama so any excuse to attack it is great” thing? Both?
