Tonight, North Carolina passed a constitutional amendment whose sole purpose was gay bashing, and in so doing caused tremendous harm to countless families. There was nothing conservative about this. Nothing Christian about this. It was mean spirited hatred, and really nothing more.
But as I stated to my friends in NC earlier tonight, it will not last. The world has already passed by those who can rally around this hatred and bigotry. As I type this, a new generation is growing up, and to them the idea that people will love who they love, regardless, is no more unusual than night following day. There simply is no future for this kind of thing.
Tonight, half of the country stands in opposition to hate. Tomorrow night, those numbers will have grown larger, and as time goes on they will grow larger still. Critical mass will eventually be reached.
But tonight, to anyone reading this in NC, we are standing with you.
