Tuesday, we were treated to a fantastic bit of messaging and narrative control by the GOP. After a week spent on social issues, an area where Romney is uncomfortable and vulnerable (as is the GOP as a whole), they have successfully pivoted the national conversation back to debt thanks to the one two punch of a John Boehener threat of a Debt Limit Showdown part 2 and a Mitt Romney debt speech on Tuesday. I’ll have plenty more to say about all of this later when I can go a bit more in depth, but for now I will say this. This is not about debt. The GOP does not care about debt. This is about attacking a president they hate and dismantling democrat’s programs via budgets, because they know they don’t have the votes to dismantle them with legislation.
The Paul Ryan budget which the house GOP has adopted will significantly increase debt. Mitt’s plan to reduce revenue and increase military spending will significantly increase debt. Either these people are too stupid to do basic math, or they think you are.
Republicans. Do. Not. Care. About. Debt. I suspect the dems don’t much either, but they aren’t the ones running around like they’re on fire screaming that we’re all going to die if the government borrows another dime.
