The topic of job creation reminded me that I’ve been meaning to link to this.
Every week over at Philaphilia, GroJLart points out an embarrassingly empty lot in his aptly named “Empty Lot of the Week” series. This week the empty lot is on the 100 block of South 24th street, right on the Schuylkill River waterfront.
This is a particularly bad lot to go un-utilized. It’s proximity to the river, and to the very nice and very well attended new park system next to the river, makes it a great place to put some ground floor retail. It’s located right across the river from Penn’s medical campus and in a nice area of Center City West, I could see a high-rise condo or apartment building with ground floor retail and restaurants/bars working well here. Someone should do it.
