A belated happy festivus to all! Now that were all done gathering around the festivus poll and airing our grievances, its back to work. I spent the last week and a half not reading or in any other way following or thinking about the news, so I was pretty surprised to learn that apparently people think Santorum is a serious person. Anyway, alot of interesting stuff was going on this past week, so here’s some links!
Eric Cantor just doesn’t get it that the modern day GOP would reject Reagan as too liberal.
Krugman points out that now would be a good time to do some public investing in infrastructure. I’d add that we can currently borrow at negative real interest rates, and 8.6% of our population has nothing to do. Seems like these things could be combined in some way…
Kevin Drum has a diabolical scheme to prevent robocalls trying to sell you insurance or something.
Yglesias explains why he uses technical jargon in his posts. For what it’s worth I agree with him. The jargon was created for a reason. This is why I disagree with all these proposals to eliminate “legalese” from documents.
Also from Yglesias: Apple holds a patent on multitasking on your phone.
Kevin Drum has a must read on new-school nullification. The gist of it is that if the GOP doesn’t have the votes to abolish the organizations they don’t like, they will prevent them from functioning by refusing to confirm any nominees, regardless.
Megan McArdle hates infographics. Me too. They’re a great way to turn lies into pretty, trendy-looking lies. And make them look more official than lies that are just typed out. Because anyone can type. But only people with a very basic knowledge of photoshop can make infographics. Or something.
SOPA: Everybody hates it.
