Allow me to offer some unsolicited advice as to what Mitt Romney should have said about Bain and outsourcing:
“At Bain, my job was to turn around struggling companies, to get them back on their feet. And I did that quite well. In fact, 4 out of 5 companies we worked with became more succesful than ever. That’s 4 out of 5 companies that didn’t go under, 4 out of 5 that grew and expanded, hiring more people here at home.
Regrettably, in order to save so many jobs we sometimes had to make hard choices, and unfortunately some folks got laid off. But that’s what we had to do in order to keep these companies competitive in the global economy, and we created far more jobs than were lost.
But that does little to comfort anyone who can’t find work. I understand that, and I promise you that as president I will get our economy back on track. Today, our unemployment rate is greater than 8%! Long term unemployment is even worse, people going 6 months, a year, before they find a job. If they find one at all.
Barack Obama has had almost 4 years to fix this! Three years ago, he declared that we were in a recovery summer! So let me ask you, does this feel like a recovery to you? Does it feel like a recovery to folks who have spent most of this president’s term searching for a job? There is no recovery here. And instead is trying to create one, Barack Obama spends all of his time handing out your tax dollars to his buddies at Solyndra!
There is no recovery here, and millions are suffering every day because of it. It’s time to get our economy moving again. The president has proven to all of us that he can’t do that. I can. And I will. Thank you.”
But instead he went with “it wasn’t me”. Amazing.
