Ever since the debate, the Obama campaign has been going on and on about Big Bird. They have correctly pointed out that Mitt Romney wants to enact $8 trillion in spending increases and revenue cuts, and his big plan to pay for it is cutting PBS funding. The Romney campaign has correctly responded that it’s silly to talk about saving Big Bird instead of talking about actual people’s jobs (never mind the fact that Romney’s the one who brought it up). They both make good points. They both need to shut the fuck up about Big Bird.
I get it, Big Bird is a stand-in for PBS which is in itself a stand in for government spending on social programs. I don’t care. Actually talking about those programs is more valuable.
There are actual, important, big (non-avian) issues at play here, and a month before election day we’re talking about Big Bird.
